Resources on migrant worker rights

This year, the project with the Madhu Verma Migrant Justice Center will be a joint initiative between the Université de Moncton and the University of New Brunswick. This ensures thatone student from each facultywill be matched on this project.

The Madhu Verma Migrant Justice Center is a new organization that was launched in the summer of 2022 with the support of KAIROS Canada. The organization offers support and services to immigrant workers in New Brunswick. Part of the organization's work is to develop legal information resources for the clientele it serves.

The goal of the project is to create accessible legal information resources for immigrant workers to be informed of the rights of migrant workers in New Brunswick. The project has several components:

1. Research: Students will do specific research on the rights of migrant workers in the province. An analysis will then be made based on relevant laws, policies and case law.

2. Creation of a research memorandum: The research results of the first component will be synthesized in plain language in both official languages. The memorandum must include all the information gathered by the students.

3. Creation of legal information documents: Based on the research memorandum, material will be created with the help of the organization. For example, pamphlets, information for the website, etc.

4. Presentation of the documents created: The organization would like to set up workshops based on the information collected in the other parts of the project. Students can be put in place and presented by the project stakeholders to the population interested in knowing the rights of migrant workers.
